Black out: Flights grounded at KIA

Many domestic flights have been grounded at the Kotoka International Airport due to a total blackout, Joy News has learnt.

This has greatly affected ability of the flights to refuel.

Meanwhile, a number of passengers are stranded as a result.

A stranded passenger told Joy News they were informed all domestic flights have been grounded because they are unable to refuel.

He said he was supposed to travel with Antrak Air at 4pm, but it has been rescheduled for Friday.

Kweku Antwi Bosiako, Chief Commercial officer of Antrak Air confirmed there has been a total black out at the airport.

"Unfortunately", he said, the airport's standby generator has also "developed a fault."

As at 6:45 Thursday evening, machinists are working on the generator, he said, but added that they have been assured that it would be fixed soon.

Hopefully electricity would be restored over night, he said.

He confirmed that all their evening flights to both Kumasi and Tamale have be cancelled. They have been rescheduled for tomorrow, he said.
